Scrapbook
Lucas came to my reading at the Children's Corner Bookshop in December of 2003. He was so bright and fun to talk with, and his mother got him a raptor claw of his own for the holidays. THANK YOU Lucas, for making my afternoon so fun.

I gave my DINOSAUR MUMMIES presentation at Logan Elementary's family night, in Spokane. GREAT fun! I'd love to do it again.

Speaking at Auntie's Bookstore in Spokane with Terry Trueman in February was great. Having the Gildehaus family stop by to say hello was even greater. Thank you, Brenda, Jerred, Stevie and Nick for making me feel so special.

Speaking at the SACIRA Mini-Conference on Saturday, March 13th for Ann Wolf and Helen Rock was a great pleasure, as both the Luncheon Keynote and in my breakout session featured here. Thanks for having me!

Discovery School
May 14, 2005 at Spokane's Discovery School. I had so much fun talking with the students. Thank you Lorna Kropp for letting me participate.

Kelly at BookExpo 2004
Here I am posing with a poser -- a Paul McCartney impersonator -- at BookExpo 2004, June 5, 2004.

BookExpo2004
I had such a great time at BookExpo 2004 in Chicago, IL. I'm grateful to my Darby Creek editor Tanya, her boss Randy, the YALSA librarians (Chris LOVED the buttons), the great staff at Lerner and all the booksellers and other people who made me feel so at home. WONDERFUL!

Tyrannosaur mummy by Rick C. Spears from my latest book, "Dinosaur Mummies: Beyond Bare-Bone Fossils," (Darby Creek Publishing, Fall 2003).

Terry Davis, Chris Crutcher and I spoke to Professor Ann Wolf's class at Gonzaga University about censorship, July 12, 2004. Great discussion! Thanks Ann!

My friend Chris Crutcher is the KING OF THE MILD FRONTIER, and these nostalgic totebags prove it! FUNNY! I ordered three.

A great picture from Sandra M., a student at Chattaroy Elementary School. Her favorite part of my visit was when I showed pictures of my chickens. And she liked learning why your sometimes feet stink when you take off your shoes.

Kelly and Joan in Olympia, WA.

Olympia, Washington

On May 16 & 17, I got to spend the days with kids and staffers at Hansen Elementary and McLane Elementary in Olympia, thanks to Joan Bower and the South Sound Council of WORD.  I had SO much fun sharing dinosaur fossil replicas and albino animal stories with every one in that lush, green community. Thank you so much for the glorious opportunity.

Odessa, Washington

And my sincere apology to Odessa, WA. Mapquest sent me to Lewiston, Idaho instead of to Odessa last week and I missed my visit with your school.  But I will make it up to you in the fall.  Please forgive me for having no sense of direction when I'm driving. Forgive Mapquest too.

SCBWI Mid-South Conference 2005
SCBWI Mid-South Conference in Nashville 2005. The panel, left to right: Writer's House agent, Rebecca Sherman, Boyds Mills Press art director Tim Gilner, Barbara Seuling, RA Tracy Barrett, Simon & Schuster editor Jen Weiss and me, Kelly Milner Halls.

At the end of the day, we did a panel together at the SCBWI Michigan conference, and it was great, great fun. Left to right -- HarperCollins editor Michael Stearms, Darby Creek editor Tanya Dean, me (with my mouth open...figures), illustrator Diana Magnuson, Bruce Hale, and Bruce Coville. Thanks so much Michigan, for letting me be a part of this. Photo courtesy of Melanie A. Stinson, who was also at the conference and then saw my friend Chris Crutcher at the Michigan Library Association conference this week. Small world.

I hope you'll consider joining us at the downtown Spokane Public Library.
