"Kids of all ages love dinosaurs- those 32 year old kids and those 57 year old kids. This book is a terrific resource for all of those kids. Here in Baltimore we can take our kids to the Maryland Science Center to see dinosaurs and to Calvert Cliffs to look for sharks' teeth. But after that what do you do? Well, Kelly Milner Halls has done all the work for you. You can use this book for daytrips or if you're planning a trip across country for your summer vacation you can look to see what dinosaurs await you wherever you go! From here we can go up to the Wilmington Museum of Natural History to see the stegosaurus if you have a day for an adventure and if you have a weekend you can head to Pittsburgh to see the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. THEY HAVE A T-REX! Kelly used the US Geological Survey for each state and gives great resources for seeing dinos, buying dino things and maybe even the chance to go on a 'dig.' It's thorough, up to date and promises hours of fun for all the kids in the family." Barb Langridge Children's Book Review WBAL-TV, Baltimore, MD

This new book by Kelly Milner Halls, picks up where Kelly left off in Dino-Trekking with lots of new facts and information about sites one can travel to to visit dino-destinations. You can find famous paleontological museum collections to roadside attractions and theme parks in this new much revised editon. The book contains over 300 locations in the U.S and Canada, with lots of great illustrations by paleo illustrator Luis V. Rey. Besides these 300 locations, the book contains a guide to shopping for all things dinosaur related including models, sculpture, art prints, clothing, educational materials, figures, food, games, jewelry, plush animals, soap and bath items, specialty items and more. And finally to make this a one stop source of information in things dinosaur a section on dinosaur web links is also included to guide your search for things dinosaur on the web. Each of the state chapters include another bonus called “Bone Digger Bonus” which is a special feature that highlights a an exhibit or fossil find in that state or region. A great number of dinosaur paleontology’s leading experts have shared their ideas and stories for the articles in this bonus section and it is sure worth checking out along with planning you dino-travels. Finally I like what Kelly states: “ This is called a travel guide, but it’s much more than a directory of fossil exhibits across North America. It is a guide to sharing in those bone digger’s discoveries as you journey across this once-prehistoric land. It’s a road map to the past for those of us trapped in the present.”

From School Library Journal
Grade 6 Up–The author surveys more than 300 dinosaur sites state by state in the U.S. and province by province in Canada. Entries include addresses, phone numbers, Web sites, and short descriptions of exhibits. For each state, there is also a Bone Digger Bonus, which tells a story about a particular exhibit or type of dinosaur found there. But this is much more than just a travel guide. A shopping section tells where to find dinosaur-themed candy, stickers, and pajamas. There is an extensive list of Web sites, enough for kids to do their traveling via computer, if that's the only way they can go, and contact information for the Geological Survey Office in each region. Pencil drawings of all types of prehistoric creatures decorate the pages. This is a wonderful resource; it's useful as an introduction to places of interest and a great armchair guide to the world of dinosaurs.–Cynde Suite, Bartow County Library System, Adairsville, GA

Children's Literature
The Random House Dinosaur Travel Guide is chock-full of interesting items for the dinosaur lover. This book includes enough fascinating facts to keep the reader occupied for days on end. It is a marvelous collection of not only dinosaur museums across the United States and Canada but literally everything a child could ever wonder about where in their very own state dinosaur bones could be found. There is something interesting and unique in every chapter. The pages are clearly titled by state with a "Bone Digger Bonus" included, written by experts in the field, and the information would be an inspiration for any child to explore. This travel guide also includes not only addresses and phone numbers for further research but also Web sites and E-mail addresses. And if that all isn't enough for the dinosaur lover, there is a shopping guide in the final pages that lists dinosaur-related items such as art, clothing, games, jewelry, and much more. This is definitely a fun book for kids to learn everything they might ever want to know about dinosaurs.
